- PM WIPE for OS/2 Version 1.01 01 Nov 94

- PM WIPE is an easy-to-use PM program for an unrecoverable deletion
- of files and subdirectories.
-
- PM WIPE wipes (deletes) files and subdirectories by overwriting the
- files contents with 'X' characters and deleting all files and
- subdirectories so that they cannot be recovered by the
- OS/2 UNDELETE command (or my PM UNDELETE program).

- PM WIPE wipes all files, no matter whether they are marked hidden,
- system or read-only.

- PM WIPE is easy to use. Moving the mouse over a control displays a
- hint text. An online help is not yet implemented.

- This program is FREEWARE and may be distributed together with
- this documentation to all OS/2 users!!!

- ___ Installation _________________________________________________

- Copy PMWIPE.EXE and PMWIPE.ICO (or another icon you prefer) to a
- directory in your PATH.
-
- You should install a program object for PMWIPE.EXE on the desktop
- for a quick access!

- ___ Usage ________________________________________________________

- Start PMWIPE.EXE
-
- Choose the desired drive from the combo box "Drive".
-
- Note: PM WIPE lists all drives that can be used,
- i.e., local and remote drives.

- If you want to wipe a file or a set of files:
- ---------------------------------------------

- - Choose the desired subdirectory from the list box
- "Directories" by walking through the directory structure.
-
- Note: The current path is displayed beneath the list box
- "Directories".

- - Mark the desired files in the list box "Files"
-
- Note: The list box "Files" lists a l l files in the
- selected directory. Hidden, system and read-only files
- are displayed as all other files.
-
- The list box "Files" displays filenames, date and time
- of last changes, file sizes and file attributes (left
- to right).
-
- - Confirm the unrecoverable deletion of the selected files
- by marking the check box control "Yes, I am shure".
-
- - Confirm the unrecoverable deletion of the selected files
- by marking the check box control "Yes, I am really shure".

- - Press the button "Wipe selected files forever!" to wipe the
- selected files forever.

- If you want to wipe a directory with all its files and all of its

- subdirectories:

- - Choose the desired subdirectory from the list box

- - Mark the desired directory in the list box "Directories".
- Do not mark any files!

- - Confirm the unrecoverable deletion of the selected directory
- by marking the check box control "Yes, I am shure".

- by marking the check box control "Yes, I am really shure".

- - Press the button "Wipe selected directory forever!".

- - The dialog window disappears and two more confirmation
- prompts pop up.

- - Confirm the first prompt.

- - Confirm the second prompt.

- Note: Be shure that no other processes use the subdirectory to be
- deleted. If another process uses the subdirectory to be
- deleted this subdirectory cannot be deleted.

- If you want to display only specific files you can apply a file
- filter mask by entering the filter into the field "Mask" and
- pressing the button "Apply mask".

- The default mask is "*" (all files).
